7 wonderful ways

to strengthen children's literacy

with Reading Quest
1. Contribute to funding the better future we can build together
Although Reading Quest has secured a lot of support from a number of local foundations over the years, and we are doing very solid work, we are only able to serve 20% of the children who desperately need our help.  Our waiting list is very long, and we would like to grow our team and expand our collaborations.  With the support of more community members like you, we know we can keep opening the world of reading to more children. No donation is too small or too large. If you ask us, we would happily tell you what difference any amount you wish to give could make.

2.  Ask us what we need and let us know how you would most like to help
We are all gifted in unique and different ways.  Our organization is committed to fostering the kind of collaborative magic that happens when we bring our unique and different skills and strengths together, in service of a shared vision and mission.  If you appreciate the work we do, and would like to explore how to get involved by contributing your own skills or resources, we encourage you to get in touch with us.  We are currently developing a Wish List page which will make our specific needs more transparent.  In the meantime, one of our staff or board members can talk with you about our current needs, and see how you might be able to help with them.
3.  Become an informed and enthusiastic ambassador for what is possible

Can you imagine sitting through hours of school without being able to read anything in any subject, or feeling defeated by age eight about your chances of ever succeeding in school or in life? That is a common experience for many of the students in Santa Fe who read below grade level. At Reading Quest, we have learned that it is possible to teach all children to read with proficiency and confidence. Our first and greatest wish is that you will take the time to understand and witness the power of our method, and that you will work with us to end our literacy crisis, and make our vision for thriving children a reality in our community.
4. Buy or give books!
We are always giving away children's books to our young readers.  And we gratefully welcome donations of new or gently used books.  You can also donate gift certificates purchased from any of the wonderful independent bookstores with which we partner: op.cit books in the DeVargas Mall, Big Star Books on Garfield street in Santa Fe's Railyard's district, Garcia Street Books near Canyon Road, Beehive Books on Montezuma Avenue, and Collected Works Bookstore on Galisteo Street.  This would of course also be a wonderful contribution to them.  Note that if you donate adult books to op.cit bookstore, you can transfer your credit to Reading Quest and we can use it to get more children's books.
5. Remember to use Amazon Smile :)
Ordering your products through AmazonSmile.com is a very easy way to support Reading Quest every time you order online, and at no extra cost to you.  You will get the exact same selection and prices as on Amazon.com but Amazon will donate 0.5% of your eligible purchases to us.  This means that for every $1,000 you spend on Amazon, $5 goes to tutoring children in Santa Fe.  It all adds up over the course of a year, especially if you team up with a few friends! Here is where you can learn more about the program.

6.  Develop your own creative initiative

In May of 2019, Melodi, the owner of Rock Paper Scissors Spa, dedicated her annual cut-a-thon to Reading Quest and -- with the generous support of all the volunteer hairdressers who participated -- raised $5000 on our behalf in a single day!  For the last few months, Natalie at Chrome Hair Salon and Blowout Bar has been donating the proceeds of one monthly blowout to Reading Quest; by the summer, her contributions will have covered the cost of one adult tutor supporting two children for an entire school year. In 2018, one of the members of a 100 Women who care sponsored Reading Quest to be one of the not-for-profits to present its work at the quarterly gathering.  We ended up receiving $5,226 that evening.  A real estate broker in Santa Fe often likes to make a contribution to us when she sells a house.  One of our fans recently volunteered to redo our website.  There are so many ways to support Reading Quest.  We hope that you find one that lights you up!  And we encourage you to follow your heart and creativity.

7. Inspire others to get involved
Do you happen to know a philanthropist or a foundation who might like to fund a series of short online tutorial videos we want to produce to make our method more readily available to parents and teachers in our community? Do you have connections with businesses who could sponsor the production of our literacy games?  Are there teachers or parents in your social circles who could benefit from our trainings?  Do you have relatives or friends who might like to forward our mission in one way or another?  The vision we hold for children's literacy can not be realized by just a few of us.  It is also beyond the scope of any one organization.  It truly requires a community-wide collaboration.  Will you be part of bringing that about?
