Reading Quest

~ where learning to read becomes an exciting, magical adventure ~

a non profit organization that provides joyful, quality reading tutoring for striving readers. We empower children to believe in themselves and support them to become strong, enthusiastic readers.

We invite you to  watch Meow Wolf's beautiful video  about our work.
We accomplish our mission by:

*  providing year-round, free and affordable
individual and small group tutoring for children who are reading one or more years below
grade level.

*  providing professional development, training and coaching for principals, teens tutors, volunteer tutors, teachers, reading specialists and parents. We embrace the science of reading and support phonological and phonemic awareness, in addition to building vocabulary and background knowledge, increasing reading comprehension and fluency for all of our students.

*  providing free, intensive
‘Reading is Magic’ summer programs
for elementary school age children, in collaboration
with Santa Fe School for the Arts & Sciences
and Santa Fe Public Schools (SFPS).

Reading Quest has served 400 students in our free summer ‘Reading is Magic’ camps, and over 700 SFPS students have been tutored in reading during the past three years.

Reading Quest students experience remarkable growth in reading, perseverance, and confidence, and, on average, make one year’s growth during each of our two-week summer camps and more than one year's growth during the school year.

Reading empowers us and makes it possible to navigate our world. Reading provides us with tools we need to participate in society. Learning to read is critical to a young child’s life. If children do not receive sufficient support in their early elementary school years, they face a greater chance of grade retention, behavior problems, a five-times greater chance of dropping out of school, and lower rates of college attendance.

Reading on grade-level by the end of third grade is one of the most critical milestones in education.
In Santa Fe, less than one-third of third-graders (32%) reach this milestone, which means that 68% of students may not have full comprehension of the written material presented to them in their classes.

"I simply cannot tell you how invaluable your website, resources, and trainings have been in my new role as a reading interventionist at Santo Domingo (Kewa) Pueblo. We are using Gaydos readers and the kiddos all know the short vowel song. We are making our way through the reading rules. I LOVE the video library!!! Thank you so much for your high quality, thoughtful, and loving work for children’s literacy!"
-Stephanie Hubley, Reading Interventionist, Santo Domingo Elementary School

We believe that learning how to read well is a human right and that closing the education gap between low and high income students is a powerful tool in combating inequity and poverty.

Research shows that tutoring using structured literacy strategies works to close this gap.

Reading Quest is a phenomenal program that not only promotes successful literacy but also helps students develop a wonderful self confidence in reading.  Speaking from a parent perspective, as well as a School Counselor perspective, I can honestly say that Reading Quest makes a HUGE difference in children's lives.  My daughter's confidence in reading has truly helped her excel in the new school year and we are so grateful to Reading Quest and their incredible staff for making that happen.  I am thrilled for all of the students that Reading Quest has served and will continue to serve in our community.  Thank you, Reading Quest for providing a wonderful service and a remarkable staff to help shape the minds of our beautiful children!"
~ Marissa Tapia, Proud Parent of Reading Quest Student and School Counselor at Nina Otero
